Dullstroom – Flyfishing casting instructions and guiding
Whether you have never picked up a fly rod in your life before, and are off trout fishing, we can help you have a lot of fun with a fly rod in Dullstroom
FFF Safaris can offer you everything from an introductory lesson on the grass or pond in Dullstroom, through to corporate tuition for groups for a full day. We tailor-make our lessons to suit you.
If you are weekending in Dullstroom, we can, in addition, get you onto some exclusive day waters, and improve your knowledge on entomology, flies, the dynamics of the double haul, retrieve techniques and fine-tune your casting. It’s simple if you want to learn, get in touch, and we will make it happen.
Gerhard will help you to hone your skills to try to fool the wily trout, black bass or carp that don’t often fall for the more commercialized fly patterns.
The area around Dullstroom offers pristine fly fishing on the Escarpment of Mpumalanga.
Take full advantage of the opportunities, whether you are an experienced fly fisher or novice, the day will be structured to suit your individual needs.
The cost of daily guided fly fishing would vary depending on the number of fishermen, and whether this would be a full day or half-day guided excursion.
An observer fee is charged for additional persons that accompany the fisherman, which would include lunch on a full day, or snacks on a half-day experience.
What to expect from the guiding
A guided excursion typically takes either a half-day or full-day. If Gerhard is taking you fishing for a half-day, snacks and a couple of soft drinks are included. The full-day includes lunch as well as a couple of soft drinks or water. You’re welcome to bring your own fly fishing tackle (please don’t forget your waders!) but if you don’t have the tackle, don’t worry, Gerhard will provide it for you.
Gerhard will take you to the waters in the Dullstroom area, brief you on what to expect, where to fish, and help you set up your tackle.
If you would like to bring your own fly box, you’re welcome to, but don’t worry, Gerhard has some amazing flies, developed specifically for the Dullstroom area, although they catch fish all over the world. He will also show you how to construct your leader according to the conditions and techniques that you will be fishing.
